DisruptHR 2022: Why We Need Live Music in the Workplace.

On November 17, 2022, the DisruptHR event took place for the 6th time with inspiring speeches, a full house and a great atmosphere.

10 speakers convinced with their ideas and opinions on how we can change and move the world of work.

In this DisruptHR talk Bret, a professional speaker and musician, speaks about the importance of live music in the workplace and why every company should host regular live music events for their employees.

Imagine live music in your Monday lunch break

Imagine: It is Monday 1 pm. You take your laptop, grab your lunchbox and go down to the hallway of your company. What you find there is a group playing live music.

Music fills your ears and you can decide to only listen, to eat your lunch or answer the bunch of monday morning emails that still are untouched in your inbox. The only rule is: you are not allowed to talk, only to listen and enjoy the music.

  • How would you feel with just one hour of live music in the middle of your day?

  • Which tone would it set for the rest of the day or the rest of the week?

  • Would it reduce your stress level?

  • Might you even be a bit more creative for the rest of the day and come up with new ideas and find a solution for one of your key challenges  for this week?

We all know the motor effect. What we forget, we all need this is the effect comes from music we ourselves enjoy.

How does live music affect your work live?

Every employee in HR is regularly bombarded with emails suggesting way how you can add value to the workplace. Live music is not just another suggesting among many others.

What sets live music apart is, it brings huge benefits for your workplace with minimal investments.

All you need ist a space where a concert can occur and a group to play. Most cities have a vibrant freelance musicians scence and it is not hard to find a group playing in your companies hallway.

The immense return on investment for live music at the workplace

If we talk about the costs and the return on Investment, keep in mind: A professional level string quartet with a one hour standard program can usually be found for 1200 CHF per hour.

And now imagine the benefits: think about the stories, the photos on LinkedIn, the videos on Facebook and the discussions in the hallway about the amazing experience.

Give your employees all the benefits of a concert hall without even having to leave the company building. Your employees can enjoy all the benefits that only the performing arts can bring to you without even have to enter a concert hall.

Bret brings a quote with him he has once seen before playing a concert in Zürich.

It says: „Tut um Gottes Willen etwas Tapferes.“ (For goods sake do something brave). And this is what companies should do.
